Who is Kern Energy Services

J.D. Kern is a seasoned and passionate pipeline industry executive and business owner with over 30-years of experience.  His entrepreneurial spirit contributed to the co-founding of two successful service firms providing useful and innovative solutions to the pipeline industry.  J.D. has also served as an officer for a publically-traded service company providing solutions to the energy industry.  This leadership and business experience yields context that is essential for addressing the challenges of today’s complex energy industry, and vision for assisting industry leaders in developing effective strategies, plans and programs that position their companies for success in future commercial and geopolitical scenarios. 

J.D. has a strong aptitude for aggregating talent (multi-disciplines) from both service companies and a pipeline operator to form expanded value chains of services needed to implement strategic plans, and business programs and processes.  The most recent portion of his career has been focused on increasing the safety and reliability performance of the oil and gas pipeline infrastructure.  His passion for this area is exemplified in recently conducting two-years of independent research on the natural gas pipeline industry which culminated in a strategic asset management model and related business case framework.

J.D. has served in numerous other roles in increasing responsibility delivering solutions to environmental, safety and reliability challenges for the pipeline industry: operations manager, project manager, and senior and project engineer.  J.D. also served 5-years on active duty as an officer in the United States Army.   

J.D. resides in Golden, Colorado and the Texas Gulf Coast with his family.  He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
