Research Summary
This research has involved: reading dozens of books and industry studies, and multitude of technical papers, government transcripts and news articles; attending industry conferences; conducting over 100 meetings with industry leaders and subject matter experts (SMEs); and participating in governmental activities focused on new regulations. The research has focused on the pipeline industry with special focus on natural gas, but many parts also apply to liquid pipelines: economics (supply and demand) and commercial arrangements; technical pipeline integrity (safety) and reliability challenges and solutions; geo-political setting and emerging regulations, including regulatory and operating philosophies; corporate governance and management systems; public engagement and building trusting relationships; integration of technology to amplify success of asset management; reduction of methane emissions; and asset rationalization. The research culminated in the development of a transformative strategic asset management model and related business case framework.
